Breastfeeding Quote Sings Praises of La Leche League
John Rhys-Davies is a character actor best known for playing Sallah in the Indiana Jones films and Gimli in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. After the birth of his daughter with New Zealand television personality Lisa Manning, he’s using his star power to sing the praises of La Leche League.
I was amazed that Lisa’s milk was all that Maia needed for more than six months, and how bonded they are as a result. La Leche League is a wonderful organisation, which supports breastfeeding and, amongst other things, helps women, like Lisa, who experience some difficulty learning how. It should be trumpeted from every rooftop!
How wonderful and sweet of him to say that! With all the good work La Leche League does, I’m always surprised by how few people in the general public are familiar with the organization. For the last three years I’ve volunteered to wrap Christmas gifts at Borders Books as a fundraiser for La Leche League. While many of the women who come to the wrapping table know the name, the men often greet it with a blank look or even a flush of embarrassment (shocking as it is that breasts are anything other than sexual objects!) So I think it’s very nice that a 62-year-old man speaks out eloquently in favor of La Leche League!
