Nursing Pillows: A Poll
I enjoyed using a Boppy nursing pillow in the early days of breastfeeding (and later I used it for my baby’s tummy time or to help support her as she learned to sit). I don’t think a nursing pillow is a necessity–certainly regular pillows work also–but it is nice to have one. You can sew your own nursing pillow or read some breastfeeding product reviews and buy one.
If you have a nursing pillow, I’d like to hear your opinion on which brand you would recommend:
Please leave a comment to share your thoughts on what you liked or didn’t like about different brands of nursing pillows.

Love love LOVE my boppy. When my daughter was first born I found myself wishing I had one in every room (or at least one on every floor of the house) so I didn’t have to hunt it down when she was hungry. Now she uses it for safe sitting. My sister-in-law used hers to protect her newborn when sleeping. I always recommend them to parents who’ve never had them and also to folks looking for a present to bring to a shower. They are wonderful!

I don’t know if the boppy changed much in the time I tried it out, but I didn’t find it to be a very good fit unless you’re skinny. I did like the rounded shape of it.
I got a my brest friend pillow and liked that. At the time I bought it there were some reviews that didn’t like the velcro closure because it disturbed the baby. Well, perhaps they were phasing it out because at the time I was looking at it, it had a hook/snap? closure that is easy to use without making noise.
Anyway, I like the remote/whatever pocket it has, and I love the adjustable fit. I suppose if it were more rounded, you could use it to prop up the baby a little like you can with the boppy, but it also works well as a shelf of sorts. And because of the closure strap, it stays securely attached. (Obviously, for weight/balance reasons, I wouldn’t put the baby on it and just carry her without support, but it makes it easy when you have it attached and you are getting your stuff together and moving to another room.)
Love it.

I had the My Brest Friend pillow and loved it. It is great fir the first few months when the baby is small and nursing all the time. Keeps your arms from getting tired. I like that it has belt clip to keep it on securely. As Hanmee said, it is good for going from room-to-room. if you need to answer the phone, get a drink, etc., you can do so without interrupting breastfeeding.
I think it is especially good it you’ve had a cesarean, like I did because it protects your incision from the baby kicking you.
With my next child, I might try breastfeeding in a sling, but I am glad I had the My Brest Friend pillow with my first.

I have both a Boppy and a My Brest Friend. I used My Brest Friend for the first few months. It was great for support and positioning, and I would recommend it to new breastfeeding mothers. It is wide enough that I never had to worry about my baby rolling off it as I fumbled to get my arms, hands and nipples where they were supposed to go! In the early months, I tucked the Boppy in my daughter’s bassinet (with her legs and feet in the U of the Boppy and it’s sides coming up around her hips) to help her feel extra snuggled. Now that I’ve gotten better at nursing I usually use the Boppy just because it is easy to grab and put on quickly. I’m also finding it useful during the baby’s tummy time and to support her as she gets closer to sitting on her own. I couldn’t vote twice, but I recommend them both!
I’d love to know which brand/kind of sling others found helpful, because I too would like to try that next time.

I’m the mom who invented the Nuzzle pillow, so I’m obviously biased. I saw your poll and wanted to write in and say that the Nuzzle is no longer available under the Nuzzle name, (it’s a long nightmarish story involving incompetent lawyers) but I’m now selling it on my site under my own brand, Grow. Hopefully we will build up a customer base despite the setbacks, as it has gotten really good reviews and feedback from nursing mothers and lactation consultants. I was glad to see that it made your list!

Just a note on the person who said the Boppy wasn’t a good fit unless you were skinny when they tried it - I agree and Boppy has actually changed to include an elastic stretchable that better accomodates various sized mothers… haven’t tried it so I dont know how well it works but it’s there!

I LOVED the nuzzle. SO sad to see it wasn’t on the shelves at baby stores when I was shopping for a friend’s babyshower.
The bobby was too big and ackward for me. Because it was rounded, I felt I was balancing baby while feding. The nuzzle was the right size and easy to use. I loved the inclined shape! SOOO glad to read that its still out there!!
