Lubbock Nurse-In Tops Local Television News

The Lubbock nurse-in led tonight’s local NBC evening news cast. The KCBD video broadcast reported that over 30 breastfeeding women showed up at the First Friday Art Trail at the Buddy Holly Center to applaud the city’s decision to overturn its ban of artwork depicting a breastfeeding mother and a nude pregnant woman. Both the […]

Lubbock Texas Nurse-In for Breastfeeding Art

The artwork shown at left was one of two pieces banned from an art show at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, Texas. According to the artist Lahib Jaddo, city official Scott Snider rejected the work over the telephone without ever having seen the actual sketch. The local television news reports that the city has […]

Nurse-In to Support Federal Breastfeeding Promotion Act

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) plans to re-introduce the federal Breastfeeding Promotion Act on May 10, 2007. If you’re in the Washington, DC area, you can show your support for the legislation by participating in a nurse-in on Capitol Hill on May 10. A strong showing is needed to make a difference as several previous attempts […]

Texas Nurse-In, Round Two

Mothers returned to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport this morning for a repeat rally, both to support nursing mother Emily Gillette and to seek an apology for how the Texas mothers were treated at the initial rally.
This time the rally went off without a hitch. While the original rally consisted of five mothers and nine children, […]

You can hear audio of a story on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered (Airport Protests Back Right to Breastfeed) and watch video on ABC World News (Etiquette 101: Breastfeeding in Public?)

Initial Rally Tally

Organizers of the national nurse-in report that over 773 mothers, fathers, grandparents, children and supporters attended at 36 airports! Three of those sites have yet to report the number of participants, which means the final tally will be even higher.
I think some of the news coverage has under-reported the number of attendees simply because […]

Photos from Delta Nurse-In

Photos from the nurse-in at Reagan International Airport (DCA) have been shared by Robin Abadia. What I love to see (aside from the happy and super-discreet mama and nursling!) are all those breastfeeding icons!

Nurse-In News Reports

All in all the first-hand accounts of the national nurse-ins have been extremely positive. The participants were peaceful and the news reporters were friendly and sympathetic to the cause. Only one participant reported a bad experience when she was turned away from JFK airport. Security was not allowing anyone without a ticket to enter, but […]
